Knox County seeks to establish itself at a regional tourism destination

Center, NE— On Thursday, April 27, Knox County Economic Development in partnership with Nebraska Extension will host a community meeting to discuss the identity, branding and tourism of Knox County communities and the region. Community members from the county and region’s towns and villages are invited to share their perspectives and stories on what makes their communities unique places to live, work, and play as the region seeks to expand its tourism and economic base.

“Each community in Knox County has its own unique assets and identity, things that we as locals can overlook,” shared Stacy Miller of Visit Knox County. “Yet to tourists, the remnants of the Mormon Trail, learning about the cultural heritage of the Santee Sioux and Ponca Tribe, or even enjoying a kolache from Verdigre help to create experiences that invite visitors to stop and spend time and money in our county and region.”

Identifying, linking, and leveraging these regional stories and assets will be a primary focus of the upcoming community meeting. This meeting is part of the larger Destination Knox County, NE project, funded by USDA Rural Development. This project seeks to provide the necessary technical and financial assistance to create an economic development, tourism, and placemaking plan for the Knox County, Nebraska region, including counties and communities in South Dakota.

The community event will be held at The Barn at God’s Country, 53174 Hwy 84, Center, Nebraska from 4:00-7:00 p.m. A meal will be provided at the conclusion of the meeting.
